CBS News“60 minutes” – which again did not cover the New York nursing homes scandal – has been criticized for fabricating a ‘pay to play’ story that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (right) gave Publix preferential treatment for handing out the COVID-19 vaccine because they contributed to his campaign – and then edited his perfectly reasonable explanation.
In one deceptively edited segment aired on Sunday nightCorrespondent Sharyn Alfonsi barked questions at DeSantis at a press conference in March, saying, “Publix, as you know, donated $ 100,000 to your campaign… And then you rewarded them with the exclusive rights to distribute the vaccination in Palm Beach – »
In 60 minutes misleading modificationDeSantis seems to be dodging the question.
In reality, he notes that other retailers have received contracts to distribute before Publix, and that the recommendation to use the chain were from Florida officials.
“First of all, the first pharmacies that had [the vaccine] were CVS and Walgreens and they had a long term care mission so they were going to long term care facilities. They got the vaccine in mid-December, they started going to long-term care facilities in the third week of December for long-term care, ”DeSantis said. “So that was their mission, it was very important and we trusted them to do it. At the beginning of January, we wanted to expand the distribution points. “
“So yeah, you had the counties, you had drive-thru sites, you had hospitals that were doing a lot, but we wanted to do more in the communities. So we reached out to other retail pharmacies: Publix, Walmart, obviously CVS and Walgreens had to complete this assignment and we said we would use you as soon as you’re done with this, ”he continued, adding that Publix was “The First to Raise Your Hand.”
The network’s propaganda was so absurd that Palm Beach County Democratic Mayor Dave Kerner released a statement saying “the 60 Minutes reports weren’t just based on bad news – it was intentionally wrong. “
More than Breitbartby John Nolte:
The clip released by the fake exit is maliciously edited to give the impression that DeSantis dodged and bulldozed his question rather than answering it – which he did to the satisfaction of every reasonable person.
“Publix, as you know, donated $ 100,000 to your campaign,” Alfonsi said angrily. “And then you rewarded them with the exclusive rights to distribute the vaccine in Palm Beach -“
“First of all, what you are saying is wrong,” DeSantis replies.
“How does it not pay to play?” Alfonsi answers.
“It’s a false story,” says DeSantis. “I met the county mayor, I met the administrator, I met all the people in Palm Beach County and I said, ‘Here are some of the options: we can do more sites. drive-thru, we can give more to hospitals, we can do the Publix. ‘And they said,’ We think it would be the easiest thing for our residents. ‘ “
Alfonsi responds that Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay said DeSantis “had never met with her about the Publix deal.” She then heckles the governor: “The criticism here is that it’s paying to play, governor!”
“And it’s wrong, it’s wrong,” DeSantis replies. “This is a false story. I just disillusioned you with the story. And you don’t care about the facts. Because, obviously, I presented it to you in a compelling way.
By design, DeSantis looks ridiculous in the 60 Minutes clip, like he’s claiming a victory he didn’t get, like he’s just shouting words like “disillusioned” and “facts” and “irrefutable” hoping that will make it so….
