As Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY approaches its 10th anniversary, the inclusive company, which empowers underrepresented voices, expands its leadership roles.
The longtime ARRAY managing director Mercedes Cooper has been promoted to Vice President of Public Programming. Cooper joined ARRAY in 2011 as an assistant. She led ARRAY’s marketing efforts as Marketing Director before moving on to programming last year with the launch of the collective’s Amanda Cinema. In addition to overseeing a year-round program, Cooper curated the collective’s first six-week film and festival program, dedicated to black artists, filmmakers, and colored people, entitled ARRAY 360.
In addition, ARRAY has hired Dee Tuck as Chief Technology Officer of GitHub / Microsoft and former One Campaign manager Allison Biggs, who will join the team as Chief of Staff. Other new roles include former NBCUniversal manager Sharon Liggins as Vice President of Publicity and Tammy Garnes as Director of Education and Understanding at Marietta City Schools. Last and not least, the ARRAY Filmworks team has added Montserrat Gomez, who joins the company from Quibi as Director of Current Programming, and Janae Desire, who joins from CAA as Manager of Development.
“Ava and I are excited to welcome these dynamic leaders to the ARRAY team as we enter our 10th year of mission-driven, narrative change,” said Tilane Jones, president of ARRAY. “And it is a real thrill to support our long-term colleague Mercedes Cooper, whose commitment and vision are unparalleled.”
