In response to a jihadist terrorist attack in Vienna last week, the Austrian government will pass a law prohibiting the spread of “political Islam” in the country.
The capital of the European nation was rocked when a lone gunman killed four people and injured 23 others in a rampage that began in the city’s historic district. The culprit, Kujtim Fejzullai, 20, was an ISIS supporter.
In response, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced new measures that would make preaching “political Islam” a criminal offense.
“We are going to create a criminal offense called ‘political Islam’ so that we can act against those who are not terrorists themselves, but who create fertile ground for them,” Kurz tweeted.
Im Kampf gegen den politischen Islam werden wir einen Straftatbestand „Politischer Islam“ schaffen, um gegen diejenigen vorgehen zu können, die selbst keine Terroristen sind, aber den Nährboden für solche schaffen.

Another measure due to be passed by parliament next month would see individuals convicted of terrorist offenses held behind bars for life.
As we pointed out previously, despite the worst threat than Austria, the French government has not taken similar measures.
However, President Macron has faced global protests from the Muslim world simply for reaffirming the preeminence of free speech and suggesting tighter border controls.
