Circuit Courts Reassigned, Conservative SCOTUS Justices Preside over Battlefield States

Circuit courts were reassigned to SCOTUS judges on Friday, with conservative-leaning judges overseeing major battlefield states where President Donald Trump is embroiled in legal battles for electoral fraud.

On Friday, the Supreme Court announced the latest allocation of judges, made in accordance with Title 28, United States Code, section 42, following the recent death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett.

Under the new order, at least two people appointed by President Donald Trump will be in charge of circuit courts in the still heavily contested battlefield states, with Judge Brett Kavanaugh responsible for the Sixth Circuit, where Michigan is located. , and Judge Barrett presiding over the seventh. Circuit, where Wisconsin is located.

Other Tory judges will also oversee two other swing districts, with Judge Clarence Thomas presiding over the Eleventh Circuit, which encompasses Georgia, and Judge Samuel Alito covering Pennsylvania in the Third District.

SCOTUSBlog.com describes the duties of District Judges, which include weighing in on “emergency requests” and referring certain questions to SCOTUS:

A circuit judge is primarily responsible for emergency requests (for example, a request to block an execution or allow it to proceed) from the geographical area covered by his circuit, as well as more mundane matters – for example, a request to extend the time limit for filing a request for review. However, judges can and often do refer important emergency requests to full court, as Judge Neil Gorsuch did earlier this month with a North Dakota Native American request to prevent the state from d ” enforce a law requiring voters to present identification that includes a residential street address.

It remains to be seen whether circuit courts will have to weigh in on the 2020 presidential election, or whether the state’s contested results will be sent back to SCOTUS.
