Clarence Thomas puts gay marriage in court

If you think there is no risk of same-sex marriage being called off, Judge Clarence Thomas would like you to think again.

Thomas, joined by Judge Samuel Alito, today released a meteoric attack on the landmark Supreme Court case of Obergefell v. Hodges, who rolled back state bans on same-sex marriage in 2015, arguing it should be rolled back.

Thomas’ opinion is not a court decision and has no legal impact. My husband and I are still legally married and our daughter has not yet been taken from us. But Thomas’ cope is a terrifying warning to the millions of LGBTQ Americans who have built families together as a result of Obergefell, and a reminder that we are not as sure of our rights as many of us thought. Especially when you count the judges likely to agree with Thomas.
