Democrats start to downplay their email vote

In late summer, as Democrats crafted a general election strategy around the merits of postal voting, former first lady Michelle Obama used part of her speech in Congress to open the door to a more flexible framework. .

Part of her message, “vote early, in person if we can” was subtle, and she would go on to list other acceptable alternatives later. But it showed a fundamental understanding of a view commonly held among black voters – that voting in person is historically preferable – and indicated the Democrats’ desire to broaden their approach.

Now, less than a month before election day, black activists, agents and lawyers have rallied and escalated this push, especially as President Donald Trump has cast doubtless and many resumed postal voting throughout the pandemic.
