A retired Pennsylvania firefighter was arrested Thursday for allegedly throwing a fire extinguisher at several law enforcement officers during the MAGA riots on Capitol Hill last week..
Robert Sanford, of Chester, Pa., Faces three counts, including assaulting a police officer, after being caught on camera throwing the fire extinguisher as crowds walked past Capitol Hill cops and broke into the building on January 6. in FBI custody in Pennsylvania Thursday morning just before 6 a.m., a source with knowledge of the matter told The Daily Beast.
Video of the protest shows rioters storming a barricade as Capitol Hill police desperately try to contain them on the west side of the building. Next, a rioter can be seen throwing the fire extinguisher at a group of officers and hitting at least one on the helmet.
“They broke through, let’s go!” an individual is heard screaming in the clip. The Wall Street Journal first reported the arrest and that the incident was filmed.
This incident did not involve Constable Brian Sicknick, who was separately hit in the head by rioters with a fire extinguisher during the chaos. Sicknick, who later succumbed to his injuries, was one of five people who died last Wednesday. The other four were pro-Trump protesters, including Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt, who was shot and killed by a police officer after trying to break into the President’s lobby.
Sanford is one of dozens of pro-Trump rioters who have been indicted for the deadly violence last week. On Wednesday, an Olympic gold medalist, two cops from Virginia, an MTA worker, a former Peace Corps member and a man who wore a sweatshirt with the phrase “Camp Auschwitz” as he stormed the Capitol have all been indicted for their roles in the insurgency.
On Tuesday, the son of a prominent Brooklyn judge was arrested for stealing government property after being pictured in the Capitol wearing a police body armor over fur pelts and wearing a riot shield in plastic with the Capitol Police badge.
Other rioters arrested include Richard Barnett, a self-proclaimed white Arkansas nationalist who posed for beautiful photos in the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi; Adam Johnson, a stay-at-home dad from Florida who was pictured smiling as he fled with the lectern of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi; and Jake Angeli, the shirtless, horn-bearing Arizona resident known as “QAnon Shaman”.
DC U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin told a press conference Tuesday that charges had been laid in 70 riot-related cases and that investigators had opened more than 170 cases. He added that at the end of the investigation, he expects to file complaints in hundreds of criminal cases.
“The scope and scale of this investigation is truly unprecedented,” he said.
