French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a radical overhaul of global social and economic systems, saying demographic changes and other issues will require new ways of allocating scarce resources.
In an in-depth interview with the Geopolitical Studies Group, the French leader said that “Washington Consensus”,which he defined as a “Monolithic reasoning based on the accumulation of benefits” was outdated and that nations must adopt new economic, political and social models in order to overcome current crises, including the coronavirus pandemic and terrorism.
He also warned that “Malthusian theories” overpopulation would become more widespread unless there was “Re-conception of the world” who is addressed “The scarcity of resources” as well as demographic changes.
Patrick Henry’s words echo the truth in these present times, all in the name of the struggle for our liberation from the left wing, the socialist uprising seeking to overthrow society.
If you take the Europe-Africa region, for each European country disappearing demographically, in the same period, an African country appears. We are witnessing a kind of acceleration in the twists and turns of history
Warning that the world is at one “Breakpoint”, he said that “Contemporary capitalism” must undergo a transformation.
It is capitalism which has become financialized, which has become too concentrated and which is no longer capable of managing inequalities in our societies and at the international level. We can only respond to it by forcing it again.
He proposed to replace the “Washington Consensus” with a “Paris Consensus” this would recognize that “something other than profit must be involved” in economic and social decisions. He insisted that such a new system would be better suited to tackle the threat posed by climate change, as well as inequalities.
The French president expressed hope that his vision would be adopted by the rest of the world, arguing that “The fight against this mechanism of capitalism is ineffective in one country.”
Although he pointed out that he still believed in the idea of “Westphalian sovereignty”, Macron called for greater European unity, saying the continent must cooperate closely in order to “Prevent the Sino-American duopoly.”
