After a tumultuous year at Fox News that included the network’s own “Brain Room” hosts and presenters warning not to trust his “misinformation,” pro-Trump columnist John Solomon is no longer a paid contributor to the network.
A Fox News spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Beast that Solomon is no longer affiliated with the conservative cable company. Solomon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
While Solomon’s Fox News hits have dried up in recent months – he hasn’t appeared since July – he has remained a regular presence on Fox Business Network’s stridently pro-Trump shows hosted by Lou Dobbs and Maria Bartiromo. . In his recent appearances, he has been identified only as the editor of his right-wing digital media Just The News or the author of Fall, his latest book warmly approved by President Donald Trump.
The last time he was identified as a Fox contributor on-air was during an October 14 appearance on Bartiromo’s morning FBN show. Salomon Twitter Account do not list Fox News in his bio.
After a long journalistic career which included passages in The Washington Times, The Washington Post, and The Daily Beast, Solomon rose to prominence in the right-wing media ecosystem following Trump’s election.
As Creative Director of Circa News, he partnered with current Fox News contributor Sara Carter on a number of stories that set the stage for Trumpworld’s ‘Spygate’ story, this which has earned him a staple in Sean Hannity’s Fox News program.
After joining The hill as executive vice president of digital video in 2017, Solomon’s questionable reporting – which has repeatedly prompted accounts that Trump was the victim of a liberal “deep state” plot – sparked tensions in the newsroom, The hill to move him to the opinion side in 2018. Despite Solomon’s own employer calling his work strictly “opinion”, Hannity will continue to call Solomon an “investigative journalist” during his appearances, despite the fact that the Fox’s leadership told him to stop.
At the height of Trump’s impeachment drama attempting to coerce Ukraine into investigating its own political opponent, Joe Biden, Fox News officially hired Solomon as an on-air contributor in October 2019. The network’s timing for his hiring was particularly worrying. because the journalist had just been named several times in the whistleblower’s complaint for impeachment, which prompted Solomon’s colleagues to unload on him.
Solomon’s opinion pieces at The hill, meanwhile, helped fuel efforts by Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani to dig up the dirt on President-elect Joe Biden, which was exposed in full during impeachment hearings. After revealing that Solomon had been in frequent contact with Giuliani and his Ukrainian associates, The hillBob Cusack’s editor-in-chief announced that the newspaper was “doing a meticulous review” of Solomon’s columns on Ukraine.
Solomon would leave The hill at the end of 2019 to launch his own conservative media company, Just The News. In February 2020, The hillSolomon’s internal investigation revealed that Solomon had published misleading columns and the newspaper should not have presented them as news articles. He also criticized Fox News for identifying Solomon as an “investigative reporter” at the time.
At the same time, the Fox News research team compiled an informative book on Ukraine and the impeachment from the news broadcasts that warned his colleagues that Solomon lacked credibility as he played an “indispensable role” in a Ukrainian “disinformation campaign”.
