George RR Martin still hates this controversial ‘Game of Thrones’ rape scene: she ‘made it worse, not better’

One of the most controversial of David Benioff and DB Weiss Game of thrones the choices apparently still don’t suit George RR Martin. Speaking to James Hibberd for a full oral history of the series, the author said he still doesn’t like the way the duo changed on Daenerys Targaryen’s wedding night with Khal Drogo.

In the original version A of ice and fire series, Daenerys is forced to marry the warrior Dothraki, but the two have consensual sex on their wedding night. In the show, Khal Drogo rapes Dany.

Martin has already discussed the change of scene; As originally shot with Tamzin Merchant before the production recast Emilia Clarke as Daenerys, the sex in the scene was described as consensual, as in the novel. (Apparently the original love scene was so it even turned on a young horse who was on set at the time.)
