Four countries abruptly halted distribution of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as people reportedly developed blood clots after receiving the vaccine.
Germany, France, Italy and Indonesia have all announced that they will suspend use of AstraZeneca’s vaccine as a precautionary measure until the World Health Organization conducts a review.
“After new reports of cerebral vein thrombosis in connection with vaccination in Germany and Europe, Prince Edward Island (Paul Ehrlich Institute) considers that further investigations are necessary,” said the Ministry of Health.
“The European Medicines Agency will decide if and how the new findings affect the approval of the vaccine,” he added.
“The decision has been made … to suspend the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine as a precaution, hoping that we can resume its use soon if the EMA’s judgment permits,” Macron said.
Italian prosecutors seized a batch of 393,600 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines over the weekend after a teacher died on Saturday hours after receiving the vaccine.
Indonesia has decided to suspend use of the AstraZeneca vaccine after seeing reports of blood clots emerging in European countries.
“To be conservative, the Food and Drugs Agency has delayed the implementation of AstraZeneca [vaccine] pending confirmation from the WHO, ”Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said on Monday during a parliamentary hearing.
Many European countries, including Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Iceland and Norway, have already suspended use of the AstraZeneca vaccine due to reports of blood clots.
It comes as the establishment and the media demonize anyone who is skeptical about taking the vaccine.
Dr Anthony Fauci said on Sunday he found it “so disturbing” that you would dare to question the safety of any of the COVID vaccines, even though many countries are suspending it for health reasons.
According to reports, he was struggling in the intensive care unit on Saturday after taking the vaccine.
