A federal judge has again denied the bail of Jeffrey Epstein’s accused accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, who faces trial for allegedly recruiting and treating girls for the financier.
In a ruling on Monday, U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan wrote that “none of the new information” Maxwell provided to the court “has a material bearing on the court’s determination that she is at risk of absconding. .
“The court also finds that the bail conditions proposed by the defendant would not reasonably guarantee his appearance in future proceedings,” Nathan added.
Earlier this month, Maxwell offered a $ 30 million bond backed by her siblings and her supposed husband, who would be widely regarded as tech CEO Scott Borgerson. In a letter filed in support of Maxwell’s renewed bail application, the alleged husband said: “I have never witnessed anything inappropriate with Ghislaine … On the contrary, the Ghislaine that I know is a wonderful and loving person.
Manhattan Federal Court first held a bail hearing for Maxwell in July, when Nathan ruled that “no combination of conditions could reasonably ensure his presence in court” because of his wealth and its relations with foreign countries.
Nathan’s latest notice and order have been filed under seal and will be placed on the public registry after the government and Maxwell’s lawyers proposed redactions.
