Lord Sumption compared the continued application of mask-wearing and social distancing to that of wartime food rationing after World War II.
An interesting parallel is the continued wartime food rationing after the last war. People were in favor of it because they were in favor of social control.
[But] in the 1951 general election Labor lost its majority entirely because people who had five more years of experience in social control had had enough. Sooner or later it will happen in this country.
