Banking giant HSBC has told customers in the UK that if they refuse to wear a face mask when entering a branch, they could have their account closed.
Jackie Uhi, head of branch network, HSBC UK, told the Daily Mirror that those who fail to comply will not only be refused service, but will have their relationship with the bank severed.
“Unfortunately, some people fail to protect themselves, our branch colleagues and other customers by refusing to wear a face mask inside our branches or observe social distancing,” Uhi said. .
“If you visit us, wear a face mask and keep your distance from others. If people put themselves in danger or put our colleagues at risk, without medical exemption, we reserve the right to withdraw their account, ”she added.
The announcement came shortly after several supermarkets said they would deny entry to customers not wearing face masks. Other banks could also follow HSBC’s lead by threatening customers to terminate their accounts.
Masks should be worn on public transport, in stores, supermarkets, banks, post offices, places of worship, museums, galleries, places of entertainment and libraries, although the only real one application appears to be in public transport where a fine can be imposed.
Despite being already under a nationwide lockdown, the British could be on the verge of even tighter restrictions as government ministers denied speculations earlier this week that people might not be allowed to leave their house only once a week.
In the age of mass censorship in Silicon Valley, it is essential that we stay in touch.
