Iowa Senator Joni Ernst pushes back Theresa Greenfield’s tough challenge to win second term

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst is returning to the US Senate after pushing back a determined effort by Democrat Theresa Greenfield in a race that will play a major role in choosing which party to control the Senate in January.

Iowa wasn’t considered one of the easiest seats for Democrats to reverse in 2020, but that changed as the cycle progressed and Greenfield found himself able to capitalize on a solid fundraising as Trump’s state poll plunged amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Although it was raised and spent by his Democratic opponent, Ernst was able to hang on to the seat with a campaign that relied heavily on his good faith in Iowa and tries to present himself as a bipartisan voice in the Republican caucus.
