In August last year, ICU nurse Jill Hansen from Utah visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York City and posed for a photo with her three teenagers south of the twin memorial pools listed with the names of the 2753 dead.
The South Pool is the one that bears the names of the first responders who died trying to save others and who touched the best in us with their example. The 41-year-old single mom came home saying how remarkable it had been for her and the kids to stay there.
“It was a special experience for her,” her best friend and fellow nurse, Holly Pike, told The Daily Beast. “She and her family loved the whole experience, being there and seeing it all. She talked about it a lot when she got back.
