The views Joy Behar wondered aloud on Tuesday morning if Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) would have pressured the Georgian Secretary of State to find a way to cast legal ballots because President Donald Trump “has something” about the South Carolina lawmaker.
As part of a concerted effort to reverse the president’s electoral loss, Trump has touted baseless allegations of widespread electoral fraud in Georgia, while Republican lawmakers have slammed Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger himself Republican, calling for his resignation and pressuring him to work to turn the state over to Trump.
With the state currently in the process of a manual recount, Raffensperger alleged that Graham had asked him about the state’s signature matching law and whether the political biases of the poll workers could have enabled them to ‘accept ineligible ballots for President-elect Joe Biden. The secretary of state then claimed Graham apparently asked him to reject the legal votes.
“It looked like he wanted to go down that road,” Raffensperger told the Washington post. Graham, meanwhile, denied the secretary’s claims, shouting that it was a “good conversation” and he was just trying to find out how the state verifies ballot signatures.
The ABC talk show Tuesday show kicks off with a discussion of this brewing controversy, The views The Resident Liberal co-host immediately attacked the Republican Senator.
“I don’t even understand why he would be motivated to do this,” she exclaimed. “It was after polling day. Everyone knows Georgia is near, but it will go to Biden. That number of votes he was talking about wouldn’t change that.
The long View The host, who has been fiercely critical of Graham since his blatant stint as Trump loyalist, then went straight into a rabbit hole, suggesting Graham is making Trump’s offer because the president may be blackmailing the Tory lawmaker.
“So what can we deduce from this?” Behar said. “Lindsey Graham, Trump has something on him, some weight because he’s constantly talking about trying to help Trump. I believe Trump probably told him to do it because it serves his ego to hear that he didn’t get that many votes, he got that many votes.
“Maybe also Lindsey Graham wants to be in the 2024 election and have her head on Mt. Rushmore too, ”she added. “I don’t know what he’s doing, Lindsey. But, boy, if someone has fallen out of favor harder than him, I really don’t know who that person is.
Elsewhere in the segment, co-host Sunny Hostin – who is an attorney – warned Graham that if Raffensperger’s accusations are true, he could be in legal turmoil.
“He’s a lawyer. He knows better. He knows better,” she said. “If what is alleged is true, it is a crime. I think it needs to be investigated. I think it must do. being investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee If that’s true, I don’t think he should be chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He would have committed a crime.
