Kanye West’s presidential hopes turn to dust on election night

Tuesday morning, Kanye West voted for the first time President of the United States. West, who was not on the ballot in the Wyoming where he lives, wrote on his own behalf. “God is so good”, the 43 year old man tweeted. “Today, I am voting for the first time in my life for the President of the United States, and this is for someone I really trust… in myself.

But when the polling stations closed hours later, it’s unclear how many more did. After pumping some $ 10.3 million into the campaign, West appeared on the ballot in just 12 states. the Late check-in the rapper missed the filing deadline in most states and lost several legal battles in a handful of others. States where it made take the ballot – listed under “Birthday Party” – most were from Republican strongholds: Kentucky, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Utah, Idaho and Tennessee. West has appeared on the ballots of just three competitive states: Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota. The twelfth was Vermont.

The math was never on West’s side – no combination of votes in those states would get him the 270 electoral votes needed to occupy the Oval Office. In West’s most recent campaign forecast poll, he would capture 0.0% of the vote.

When polls closed in California, that seemed more or less true. The rapper hadn’t collected more than a few thousand votes in a single state. In Oklahoma, Utah, Minnesota and Vermont, West claimed a whopping 0.4 percent of the vote; in Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennessee, West shot 0.3 percent; in Louisiana, Iowa and Colorado, that share fell to 0.2%. (Idaho had yet to report by press time).

West has been accused by multiple media outlets of running a spoiler campaign. The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee have denied coordinating with West. But when asked about the charges in an interview with Forbes, the rapper did not deny it. “I’m not going to argue with you,” he said. “Jesus is king.”

West has been accused by multiple media outlets of running a spoiler campaign.

In September, The Daily Beast reported on the group of former GOP agents involved in the Yeezus presidential grand artist. His political team appealed to Republican pillar Nathan Sproul, whose Lincoln Strategy Group company worked on Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. West’s office has also funneled millions of people into a group of strategists called Foritify Consulting, which shares an address with Lincoln Strategy.

Another Sproul-led strategy group became the center of a 2012 scandal, when three canvassers pleaded guilty to destruction of voter registration forms in Florida. Sproul and his company said they had no knowledge of the behavior, but the RNC later cut ties with the group.

In the days leading up to the election, West encouraged fans in California to write to him on their ballot. But the 43-year-old was already on the state ballot, but not as a presidential candidate. Car salesman and far-right candidate Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente Guerra, who ran on the US Independent Party ticket, cited West as his vice-presidential pick. West has not publicly addressed the candidacy and it is not clear whether he agreed to the arrangement. (West’s campaign did not respond to requests for comment).

West Kim Kardashian’s wife on election day also tweeted about voting– share an infographic on voters’ rights. She didn’t mention her husband.
