McCarthy supports challenges of Trump’s election results

(Nov 12, 2020) FOR A CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4297259 House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy hailed Republican Congressional victories in the Nov. 3 election, calling it a “term of office against socialism ”and the defounding of the police. Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill Thursday for the first time since the election, McCarthy praised the diversity of the new Republican House, saying “every outgoing Democrat who has lost either to a woman, a minority or a veteran Republican. time, Democrats are poised to have the smallest Democratic majority since World War II. “With a number of races still counted, House Republicans are poised to win between six and ten seats, drastically reducing the majority of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But despite these Republican gains in Congress, McCarthy supported President Donald Trump’s legal battles over election results, insisting that “every recount must be completed.” McCarthy pointed to the 37-day recount in 2000 that resulted in the nomination of George W. Bush as president, saying, “Let’s make sure we get it right.” In doing so, the House Minority Leader joined with Washington’s most powerful Republicans in standing firmly behind Trump and his fierce statements of electoral fraud. Five days after Biden’s election victory, Trump’s team continues to deny him the security briefings, funding, and agency access traditionally granted to incoming presidents. McCarthy, again, backed the president, saying Biden could wait for intelligence briefings: “He’s not president right now, I don’t know if he’ll be president on January 20.” #USElections #Kevin #McCarthy More on AP Archive: Twitter: Facebook: Tumblr: Instagram: You can license this story through AP Archive :.
