Minnesota Governor Tim Walz imposed a curfew on counties of Hennepin, Ramsey and Anoka after a police officer shot a man while in a traffic obstruction outside of Minneapolis.

The curfew lasts from 7 Clock until 6 amand is described by Walz as “the largest police presence in Minnesota history”.

“For those who choose to go out and … take advantage of these tragedies for personal gain, rest assured that the largest police presence in Minnesota history is being prepared,” Walz said at a news conference. “You are being arrested. You will be charged … It is not controversial. ”

Rioters were already looting shops after Sunday’s shooting in Brooklyn Center, a suburb of Minneapolis. Brooklyn Center police chief Tim Gannon said the affected officer accidentally fired her pistol while intending to use a taser on the suspect, who was identified by the victim’s family as Daunte Wright.

The shooting rocked the area amid the trial of former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin, who was accused of killing resident George Floyd during his arrest in May 2020. The video of the arrest sparked massive riots in Minneapolis that spread to other US cities.

President Biden also warned of additional unrest at a press conference earlier .

“I want to make it clear once again: There is absolutely no justification – none – for looting. No justification for violence. Peaceful protest? Understandable, ”said Biden. “We know that the anger, pain and trauma that exist in the black community in this environment are real.”
