Nashville Police, FBI, ATF respond to Christmas morning explosion – Dateway

Update (1005 ET): Absolutely terrifying images and videos surfaced on social media this morning of an explosion in downtown Nashville. Today, authorities believe the explosion was an “intentional act”. The FBI and the ATF react.

ATF Nashville tweeted that they are “at the scene of the explosion / fire incident in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.”

A powerful explosion rocked downtown Nashville early on Christmas morning. Reports indicate that a parked recreational vehicle exploded and caused damage to surrounding buildings.

According to local WKRN reports, the explosion occurred at 6:30 a.m. Friday around Second Avenue and near Commerce Street.

Metro Nashville’s management office said a parked recreational vehicle “exploded and damaged several buildings.”

The explosion was so loud that some residents heard it “12 miles away.”

Phil Williams of NewsChannel 5 said: “Firefighters are being told to remove two from the blast site, concerned about potential vehicle bombs. A police squad and a hazardous material fire crew on the scene. “

The scenes in the blast zone look like a war zone.

“Major damage to buildings near and around the scene of a huge explosion in #Nashville. Shards of glass and blown windows hundreds of yards from 2nd Av, ”one Twitter user said.

People report that their windows were blown up by the explosion.
