On Saturday, Donald Trump will travel to Georgia to try to help Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler win the second round of the January 5 election. The real question is which Donald Trump will show up at the rally. Will it be the one who wants to help the Republicans (and strengthen his legacy) or the one who wants to prove that the election was stolen from him (with the help of the Republicans). Maybe both?
Everyone is nervous. Control of the Senate is at stake. And unless Trump delivers disciplined remarks and wholehearted approval (don’t hold your breath), civil war between Trump supporters who want to hold the Senate and cult members MAGA who want to stage a coup will probably accelerate. The Fight Club features traditional Trump enablers like Ted Cruz, Dan Crenshaw and Newt Gingrich on the “hold the Senate” side, against newly formed MAGA celebrities like Lin Wood and Sidney Powell on the house fire side.
Wood and Powell, both true MAGA believers, say Georgia Republicans, including Perdue and Loeffler, “didn’t win your vote” because they didn’t do enough to help Trump. They support this despite the fact that Perdue and Loeffler both called on the Georgian Secretary of State to step down despite not doing anything wrong and obeying the law.
