Ultra-conservative evangelical leader Pat Robertson delivered a surprisingly hot rant about the recent ‘attack’ on police violence, blowing up former officers Kim Potter and Derek Chauvin while saying the cops need to ‘stop this stuff’.
During his 700 Club Airing Thursday, Robertson and co-host Terry Meeuwsen discussed the shooting death of Daunte Wright, noting that Potter – who has been charged with manslaughter – claimed she confused her pistol and Taser when she had shot and killed Wright during a traffic stop.
Using plastic models of the two guns, Robertson and Meeuwsen demonstrated the difference in size and weight between the handgun and the Taser, which prompted Robertson to say there was “no comparison”. between the two.
“Now, how did she tell the difference, when she shot that poor guy to death, saying he was what I thought was my Taser,” Robertson fumed, brandishing a plastic handgun. “And if you can’t tell the difference in how these things feel, that’s crazy!”
The longtime right-wing activist, meanwhile, assured viewers that he was firmly “pro-police” and felt that “we need their service” before continuing his criticism.
“They are doing a good job, but if they don’t stop this assault, they can’t do it,” he exclaimed.
Robertson then moved on to Chauvin, who is currently on trial for murder for the murder of George Floyd, and the recent traffic stop in Virginia which saw two police officers threatening and violently arresting Army Lt. Caron Nazario.
“You know the police in Virginia took a lieutenant in the military and started getting him into trouble, and our state police are highly trained, but why don’t they stop that, and that stuff? happening in Minnesota with Derek Chauvin. I mean they should put him in jail, ”he growled. “He caused so much trouble kneeling down to the death of George Floyd, I mean his neck, it’s really terrible what’s going on.
Robertson added: “And the police, why don’t they open their eyes to what public relations is, they have to stop this thing!”
Meeuwsen would then wonder aloud if the answer was “more training” for the police, which prompted Robertson to say that the solution was actually to increase police pay in order to attract better candidates.
“I think the problem is they have to pay them more,” he said. “We don’t have the best of the police force. These are poorly paid people… it’s not a matter of training, it’s a matter of hiring a bigger workforce, and we don’t.
“But we need the police, we need them, and we have to honor them, and I totally agree, but at the same time, we can’t have a bunch of clowns who are under- paid and who are really not the best. and the brightest, ”Robertson concluded.
