Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon on Monday held a presser to give more details on the police response to the unruly protests that followed the Wright shooting, who appears to have been accidentally shot by a policewoman who took her service pistol for herself. Taser.
“Just so everyone was clear, I was at the center of the protest, the riot,” Gannon said, before being immediately interrupted by a reporter.
“There was no riot,” a journalist told him, as others unite to oppose the term.
“Ok,” Gannon said, explaining that the police at the scene had been attacked with riot gear.
“There were … the policemen who put themselves in danger were bombarded with cans of frozen soft drinks, they were bombarded with concrete blocks,” described the police chief.
“Yes, we wore our helmets. We had other protective gear. But an officer was injured, hit on the head with a brick… he was taken to hospital. So we had to make decisions, we had to disperse the crowd because we cannot allow our officers to be injured.
