According to What’s Cooking in America, as early as 1522, the poor working class was making and eating pizza in Naples because it was cheap and quick to eat. In the 18th century, King Ferdinando IV sometimes made his chefs bake pizzas. Over time, pizza has become popular with people of varying incomes.
Today, pizza is still considered inexpensive, quick, and easy to eat. According to What”s Cooking America, America’s first pizzeria has opened in New York City. Gennaro Lombardi, a bread maker, opened the shop in 1905, and 25 years later his menu has expanded to include pasta.
More recently, entrepreneurs have tried to make pizza healthier by changing the crust. Some places use a whole wheat pizza crust, and more recently, cauliflower crust has been a viable option for many people who want a healthy crust or are gluten intolerant. It’s unclear who created the first cauliflower pizza, but according to Cauliflower Crust Pizza, one of the first recipes was written by Jamie VanEaton in 2012.
Milton’s Cauliflower Pizza at Home
Although I love pizza, I am not a fan of cauliflower. I have never eaten it cooked or raw as a vegetable. So when my friends recommended Milton’s Craft Bakers Cauliflower Pizza, I was hesitant to try it. I expected not to like it. However, based on my experience, I encourage you to give it a try. In fact, when I first made it, I informed my son that there was two-thirds of a pizza in the kitchen. I told him it had a cauliflower crust, but it was better than I expected. You can imagine my surprise when I returned to the kitchen 30 minutes later and saw that my son (who is not a vegetable lover) had polished the remaining slices.
Where to buy it
I don’t know how many places have Milton’s Cauliflower Pizza, but I buy it from Costco. Depending on whether they’re running a special deal, a two-pizza package costs between $ 12.00 and $ 16.00 at Costco. I only tried the roast veg variety, but Milton’s Craft Bakers website also has four cheese Margherita pizzas and meat lovers. Their website allows online shopping and provides a list of grocery stores that sell their products. If you put your zip code on their website, you will receive a list of local stores where you can purchase their products. I recommend calling the store first to make sure they have the product and variety you want.
Prepare the pizza
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and place the pizza directly on your oven rack. I once tried putting the pizza on a cookie sheet, but the crust isn’t as crisp and tasty if you don’t follow the directions. I had a good experience doing it in a convection oven, which will adjust the temperature to 400 degrees instead of 425. The pizza comes on a cakeboard. I recommend keeping the cake tray, so that you can slide the pizza from your oven rack onto the cake tray easily.
Surprisingly, Milton’s tasted tastier than most frozen pizzas I’ve eaten. The slightly crunchy crust has a pleasant texture and flavor. If the box didn’t say it was cauliflower pizza, I honestly wouldn’t have known. It’s a thinner style crust with enough cheese, enough sauce, and a generous amount of veg, if you choose the roasted veg flavor.

Many in the culinary profession consider pizza to be a sandwich because the toppings are based on a bread base.
Whether you think of pizza as a sandwich or just an Italian specialty, if you love pizza and want a healthier variety than one made with traditional white flour, Milton’s Bakers Cauliflower Pizza could be your new way to eat. Satisfy a pizza craving without adding a lot of carbs. to your diet.

We also buy it from Costco and I really love to eat it. My husband loves pepperoni so we added it with chopped onions. This is delicious! He says he doesn’t like cauliflower, but he likes this pizza.
