In his latest ‘A Closer Look’ segment on Monday night, Seth Meyers went through all of the most egregious reactions to last week’s siege on the U.S. Capitol, culminating in one of the most appalling of all, from the First Lady. Melania Trump.
“If you are a public figure in any capacity, but especially someone who has been an accomplice in building or nurturing this violent insurgency movement that nearly toppled the United States government,” the Late at night the host said, “The most important thing you need to focus on right now, obviously – obviously – is how many followers you have on Twitter.”
From there, Meyers unveiled a series of damning clips of the ongoing right-wing collapse on a social media crackdown on conspiracy theories and incitement to violence that has concerned everyone, from the Fox News host Maria Bartiromo and Brian Kilmeade to Republican lawmakers like Matt Gaetz and Devin Nunes.
“I know I ask a lot of questions, but what’s wrong with you?” the host wondered. “A violent mob of seditionists stormed the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow democracy, people have died and you are complaining about losing Twitter followers?”
“If a host of violent terrorists besiege the Capitol and threaten to return and your biggest concern is how many Twitter followers you have, you are a sociopath,” he added.
In addition to that, Meyers said, “If Twitter announces that they are banning Nazi and insurgent and crazy conspiracy theory jobs, maybe you’re not complaining at the same time that you’re losing Twitter followers. It doesn’t sound as nice as you think it is. “Well, well the police start rounding up the arsonists and suddenly I’m losing customers in my Kerosene and Matches R Us store!”
All of this led Meyers to the sudden Republican effort to argue for “unity” in the face of a second impeachment. “And as far as the bogus, selfish, ‘turn down the heat’ rhetoric, the cake has been taken by future former First Lady Melania Trump.
“I find it shameful that around these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unjustified personal attacks and deceptive false accusations against me – from people who seek to be relevant and who have an agenda,” he said. the first lady said in a bizarre statement that also managed to plagiarize her own RNC speech. “This time it’s all about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal purposes. “
“And let me clarify something!” Meyers added. “Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, a seditionist or a law-abiding citizen, you leave this poor woman alone! Pointing to photos that eerily resembled Melania Trump’s double body, he joked: “And that woman! And this woman! Because any of them could be her!
“I mean, how dare you gossip dirty about this woman after she’s been the best for you!” He continued. “She renovated the White House tennis pavilion for you! Do you think she has time to play tennis? Between sending messages via a jacket? And hate Christmas with all his heart?
