Gemwave Gemesis EP is the story of a strange new form of life taking shape in a laboratory. Elements of mystery, fear and even danger are reflected in the sonic palette of this dark, weird and technological sounding EP. Gemwave creates a varied, full and textured synth tapestry that takes listeners on a unique sonic journey.
“In the Lab” is born with dark synth shadows rising under a tremor,
a minor floating touch that sweeps through the music, calling with high-pitched sounds that move and move like shadows under this delicate flow. A high-pitched, nervous arpeggio carried by a string-shaped synth as it enters the music as harsh pulses of squeaky sound move through the music.
A shivering upper sound is joined by fast, brilliant and technological arpeggios as glows and bursts of synth sounds touch the music. The metallic sounding arpeggio spins, full of light, as airy streams of sound move below with distortions and synth flares. There is a delicacy that covers the sharpest elements of the track. The twisted shadow of the synth expands and contracts as luminous notes circulate around it. A superior synth sings and shines easily through the music.
Regular, slightly distorted bass pulses move with punchy sounds to begin “Stem Cells” as an aerial wave of sounds swells across the track and dark synth pulses are accompanied by cascading highs. A tight line of high metallic synthesizer calls out the uneven sounds below while bright flashes of light dance around it all. There is an insistent push into this track as the fracturing, brittle synth sounds continue to move onto the pulses below.
The combination of harshness and ethereal sound is quite interesting because all the elements multiply. The music breaks down into a drifting stream with a constant synth oscillation moving through it. The track flows into an open space with a stammering, variable synth line and airy sounds surrounding it. There is a fade in smoothness under the movement of the high line synth.
“The Lab At Night” opens with synths reminiscent of a pipe organ as a tense, shifting pattern of eerie high notes moves with shadows below. Tension and scintillating edginess dominate this track as a superior synth drifts with crystal-clear sound. The crystal synth moves through the heavy darkness behind it and high chimes also shine through the music, each element vibrates together. There is a strange sound pattern as the sinewy cut-glass synth shifts through the other sonic elements of the track. Something sinister and strange is happening here.
The deep, steady pulse of the hollow synthesizer and softer swarming sounds develop in the music as “Failure” comes to life, adding a feeling of crawling as the hollow synth pulse moves relentlessly through the music. There are booming tones with a technological edge that move with these regular pulses and a high, slightly tense lead synth flies off in fast, descending pulses. Intense movement of faded, circular sound moves through the music and rough synth washes erupt through and through as the continuous hollow pulse continues.
Higher sounds flow and flicker as an expanding and moving synth pulse screams through the quivering soundscape. There are bursts of laser-like sound around a single oscillating synth line that continues to float through the music. There is a fluid, airy segment with a high advance calling for slow, changing pulses below. The whole atmosphere floats a bit more and an intensely high synth screams through.
“Sentient” begins with a respectful flow of warm, almost organ-like sound that crystallizes in the music as it moves smoothly and sparkles. This clear sound moves through the open space as another soft synth element that feels a bit strained settles in, twisting and throbbing, quite full of a feeling of trembling movement. There are extensive washes of synth notes over a deep well of sound. The high notes swell in the open space of the track, each element mingling and increasing in intensity.
As the track opens up and swells, there are cutting sounds that also move across the rich soundscape. A buzzing line of sounds shudders as higher, more edgy sounds also float around her. This soundscape is full of flashes and other drifting sound elements. The organ-like synth hits the track with many unique and fascinating sounds that grab the ears. There is a feeling of change, of growth and something mysterious and unfathomable about this track
