Herbert Nixon Flores, 46, a ten-time deported MS-13 gang member recently released by the Los Angeles Police Department, shot his ex-girlfriend Karen Ruiz in front of their 3-year-old daughter and then committed suicide .
Mara Salvatrucha, commonly known as MS-13, is a notoriously violent gang formed in Los Angeles by (mostly illegal) immigrants from El Salvador.
Last week, Flores was freed in Los Angeles by the LAPD after ignoring an inmate to have Flores turned over to ICE and he then murdered his ex-girlfriend in Pacoima, Los Angeles County.
According to KIRO7, a babysitter’s Nest security camera captured Flores repeatedly shooting her ex-girlfriend.

The footage, released by the Los Angeles Police Department, shows Ruiz exiting his SUV and reaching the backseat. Her 3 year old daughter can be seen moving around in what appears to be a child safety seat.
Suddenly, a car quickly passes behind the SUV.
Ruiz apparently spots her ex-boyfriend’s car and, screaming in obvious terror, runs to the front door of the house. Los Angeles Detective Sharon Kim told NBC Los Angeles that Ruiz, who recently ended the relationship, has an active restraining order against Flores.
Flores runs after her, a gun in her hand. As Ruiz, who is out of range of the camera at the front door, screams for help, he grabs the gun with both hands and fires.
Flores fires six bullets at Ruiz, appearing to follow her body with the gun barrel as she falls to the ground.
A nationwide manhunt was launched over the weekend after Flores fled California to Dallas, Texas, where the FBI Fugitive Task Force began tracking him.
As soon as Flores realized he was being followed by law enforcement, he got out of his vehicle and shot himself.
Several media reporting this story glossed over the fact that Flores was an illegal alien and member of an MS-13 gang and simply referred to him as a “fugitive” who committed suicide after killing his girlfriend.
Thanks to the Center for Immigration Studies, we know Flores was a dangerous member of the MS-13 gang who entered the United States illegally and was released due to deadly sanctuary city policies adopted by Democratic politicians.
Herbert Nixon Flores was an illegal alien criminal and a member of the notoriously violent MS-13 gang. He has a 30-year long criminal record – burglary, illegal entry, concealed weapon, domestic violence, vandalism, carrying a controlled substance, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, etc. He was fired and physically deported 10 times.
This case is just one of many examples of the illegal re-entry of deported criminals that illustrates the importance of border security and domestic law enforcement.
But Los Angeles County is a sanctuary jurisdiction with policies that prohibit cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including a policy of ignoring ICE detainees. ICE issues a detainee and warrant when there are probable reasons to arrest an inmate who is already detained in a local prison; this informs the prison that the ICE intends to take custody of the alien and allows the prison to detain the individual for a brief period for ICE.
As recently as September 2020, an inmate was sentenced to turn over Flores to ICE, while being held by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) following his arrest for domestic violence. with injury. Nonetheless, the LAPD freed Flores, giving him the opportunity to continue committing crimes in his community and the surrounding communities – and it did.
