Despite aggressive efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to make corruption allegations against Joe Biden and his son a centerpiece of the president’s case for the 2020 close, some Trump advisers lament the decision to try to place Hunter Biden and his emails at the center of concerns.
Almost two weeks after the New York Post first reported the contents of a trio of Hunter Biden computer hard drives, including emails showing him trying to leverage his father’s position to advance business prospects overseas, the pro-Trump internet fringe remains crazy about history. But the re-election campaign took a more subtle approach.
Although the president has repeatedly mentioned the allegations at rallies, on Twitter and in a presidential debate last week, his campaign barely complemented it with his paid media. With the exception of a few promotions for “Where’s Hunter?” merchandise, the campaign hasn’t mentioned young Biden in ads on Trump’s Facebook and Instagram pages since October 13, the day before the New York Post first report on the contents of Biden hard drives. Pro-Trump super PAC America First Action has not mentioned Hunter Biden in his Facebook or TV ads since then.
The Trump campaign cut a pair of TV commercials hypnotizing Biden’s corruption allegations. But these are just two of the 29 TV spots the campaign has aired since the Publish the story broke, according to Advertising Analytics. The campaign has spent around $ 1.1 million on these ads since they started running last week. During the same period, he spent almost four times as much on a single TV spot to achieve Joe Biden’s tax plan.
Among the main collaborators of the president, a certain fatigue of the hunters has already begun to infiltrate. An official working on Trump’s re-election effort privately told The Daily Beast this week that he saw no point in going back on Hunter Biden’s emails and overseas relations. stories, because he was unlikely to significantly alter the narrative, even on the sidelines.
This official was indeed sent by the Trump team to make media hits this month, highlighting why the story was so important to voters. “I don’t know what’s going to happen in this election, you don’t know what’s going to happen, nobody knows. But I’ll bet big money Hunter Biden won’t win Pennsylvania for [Trump]”Predicted the official.
Part of the problem with Trump’s re-election is that for all of the material that has been released by Hunter Biden’s computers, none of it actually involved his father in corrupt transactions. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), who is leading a Republican Senate inquiry into the Bidens, conceded it in a radio interview on Monday.
When asked if he had seen “evidence … proving that Joe Biden made money from his son’s alien entanglements,” Johnson admitted he hadn’t. “No, I don’t have hard evidence that Joe Biden profited,” he said. “But I have proof that he lied by daring to never speak to his son Hunter in terms of overseas businesses.
In the absence of this smoldering weapon, the Trump campaign signaled on Monday that themes such as the economy and confirmation by Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett – issues any presidential campaign would likely have emphasized – will be a lot. more at the heart of its message in the days leading up to the voters’ departure. to the polls than anything that has to do with members of Biden’s family.
“The economy is always going to stay in the foreground,” said Jason Miller, a senior campaign adviser, on appeal with reporters Monday. The campaign plans to focus specifically on energy policy in states such as Pennsylvania, where Trump and his allies say Joe Biden’s opposition to fossil fuel extraction could be a key sticking point.
It was only after economic, energy policy and Supreme Court issues that Miller brought up Hunter Biden during Monday’s appeal. But he did so only as part of the presentation of a DC internal corruption case. Neither Miller nor campaign manager Bill Stepien have mentioned yet unsubstantiated claims that the laptops belonging to Hunter Biden contained child pornography or that he was involved in even more lustful behavior.
The relative restraint of the Trump campaign contrasts with four years ago, when many of the same people spent the end of the campaign insulting Hillary Clinton’s emails and repeatedly calling her “Twisted.” Indeed, on the call with reporters Monday, Miller referred to Clinton only by that nickname, rather than by name.
Yet some Trump followers continue to publicly argue that the president and his party must tackle the issue by election day, insisting that there will ultimately be a hidden advantage in the polls.
“Joe Biden’s corruption problem broke the mainstream media blackout and Joe Biden lied in front of tens of millions of Americans. Republicans must continue to insist on this point, “said John McLaughlin, a leading pollster for the president and his 2020 campaign.” Trump and his constituents will be energized. Biden will try to stall for the… remaining days.
Trying as best they could to keep the focus on the narrow – and much easier to understand – question of the alleged Biden family trafficking, campaign allies in the conservative media devoured and analyzed every detail of the emerging story. by Hunter Biden – and in bizarre, sometimes obscene theories about the alleged wrongdoing of the Biden family.
Right-wing fringe sites like The Gateway Pundit, InfoWars, and 4Chan’s “Politically Incorrect” forum, rather than more mainstream conservative media, have become the focal points of Biden’s more outlandish “leaks.” GNews, a website linked to Steve Bannon’s boss and Chinese dissident billionaire Miles Kuo, has emerged as the primary outlet for images believed to come from Biden’s laptop.
And as the election draws near, internet conspiracy theories about Hunter Biden have become increasingly baroque. GNews, for example, has become obsessed with an image that claims to show a series of tattoos on Biden’s back, which the site says depict New York’s Finger Lakes region. Drawing inspiration from the sons of 4Chan and a local New York article on human trafficking in the region, the site claimed the tattoo was proof Biden was involved in human trafficking.
It is difficult to get an idea of the scope of GNews’ conspiracy theories, as Twitter has taken steps to block the site’s posts from being shown. Accounts that post links to some of GNews’ articles on Biden, for example, are automatically suspended from Twitter for twelve hours for breaking the rules against “posting or sharing someone’s privately produced / distributed intimate media. without his express consent, ”according to a test performed by The Daily Beast.
Even on 4Chan, however, Trump supporters are starting to get tired of it. Pro-Trump residents of the forum had embraced the hype around a Biden story that was due to be posted Monday morning on The Gateway Pundit. But when the story failed to deliver a bombshell on Hunter Biden, 4Chan posters began to complain that the Hunter Biden “scandal” had not had a significant impact on the election.
