President Trump signed an executive order on Monday that will establish his much-vaunted “1776 Commission,” which he promises to counter the “toxic propaganda” infiltrating the teaching of American history in schools.
Trump announced the OE on Twitter:
I just signed an order for the creation of the 1776 Commission. We will stop the radical indoctrination of our students and restore PATRIOTIC EDUCATION in our schools!
– Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 2, 2020
An accompanying press release said the commission “will strive to improve understanding of the history and principles of the founding of the United States among the rising generations of our nation.”
“We will speak the whole truth, without apologies: We declare that the United States of America is the most just and exceptional nation that has ever existed on Earth,” Trump said in the statement.
The OE declares that “despite the virtues and achievements of this nation, many students are now learning to hate their own country and to believe that the men and women who built it were not heroes, but rather bad guys.”
“This radicalized view of American history lacks perspective, obscures virtues, distorts motives, ignores or distorts facts, and amplifies flaws, resulting in the concealment of truth and the disfigurement of history,” he said. ‘order.
On the eve of the election, the Trump campaign makes a final final statement regarding a possible upcoming Democratic electoral threat
Trump has previously said the initiative is a direct misunderstanding of the so-called “Project 1619,” pushed by The New York Times, which holds at its heart that America was built on the backs of slavery.
The president called it a “crusade against American history” and called the project “toxic propaganda, an ideological poison which, if not removed, will dissolve the civic ties that unite us” and “destroy our country”.
Trump’s 1776 Commission will now be established within 120 days by the Secretary of Education and will consist of up to 20 “President-appointed” members.
The initiative will seek to help “a rising generation understand the history and principles of the founding of the United States in 1776,” according to the OE.
