A viral clip online shows UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock unsuccessfully claiming to cry on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” Tuesday.
Hancock became ‘moved’ after discussing his 90-year-old British grandmother, Margaret Keenan, who was the first person in the UK to take the COVID-19 vaccine outside of trials.
The next person to be vaccinated was an 81-year-old man named William Shakespeare.
After hearing Shakespeare speak, Hancock acted like he was crying, and Piers Morgan commented, “You’re pretty emotional about it.”
“It has been such a difficult year for so many people and William Shakespeare is just saying for everyone that we can live our lives,” he said, stopping to “sob” every now and then. “And there are still a few months left, we can’t blow it up now. We still have to deliver the vaccine to millions of people, so we have to continue to play by the rules. It makes me proud to be British.
Although Hancock says the vaccine makes him “proud to be British,” The Guardian note, “the UK had almost nothing to do with this vaccine.”
The internet had fun with Hancock’s crocodile tears.
