Walmart has announced that it has removed guns and ammunition from store shelves in preparation for potential violent unrest after next week’s presidential election.
“We have witnessed isolated civil unrest and as we have done on several occasions over the past few years, we have moved our firearms and ammunition off the sales floor as a precaution for the safety of our associates. and customers, ”Walmart said in a statement. “These items remain available for purchase by customers.”
The retailer had previously withdrawn weapons and ammunition during the Black Lives Matter riots that followed George Floyd’s death earlier this year.
The move may also have been prompted by further riots in Philadelphia this week, in which many stores were looted, including a branch of Walmart.
Walmart only sells firearms and ammunition in about half of its stores, and stopped selling ammunition that could be used in rifles and semi-automatic pistols after the El Paso shooting in 2019.
Businesses across the country are also embarking on storefronts in anticipation of angry clashes, which can escalate if the actual election result is not announced for days or weeks.
“If we don’t have a clear winner, things could get ugly,” Forbes reports.
“Since we have witnessed months of chaos, riots and civil unrest in major American cities, it is reasonable to conclude that we will have a frightening level of violence, destruction and unrest after the election. Both sides can claim victory, which could lead to actions we don’t even want to consider because it would tear the country apart.
In the Age of Silicon Valley Mass Censorship It’s critical that we stay in touch.
