One person was shot and several others injured when a crowd of supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the United States Capitol on Wednesday.
Capitol Police, who failed to prevent rioters from entering the building, confirmed to the Daily Beast that a woman was in “critical condition” after being shot during the stunning breach. Six people in total were hospitalized due to the violence, including a police officer.
Video posted on Twitter showed a woman carrying a Make America Great Again flag falling after rioters smashed a window in the Capitol building. Blood covered his neck.
Congress was in the process of certifying the results of the election, won by President-elect Joe Biden, when protesters entered the building.
Violent protesters mistakenly believe Trump won the election despite multiple rulings by federal and Supreme Courts and state officials on both sides finding no evidence of widespread voting irregularities or fraud. The Commander-in-Chief addressed many rioters outside the Capitol just before they entered the building, telling them to “stop the flight”.
